Project Overview

The new award winning centre brings together a wide range of services in a modern, accessible, one-stop facility. GP services, selected acute outpatient and diagnostic services and a large number of multidisciplinary teams will be available under one roof.

As part of a planned programme of health and care centre developments that will support the implementation of ‘Transforming Your Care’, the new Centre allows people to live independently for longer in their own homes, promotes good health, reduces unnecessary hospitalisation, improves chronic disease management and allows for early diagnosis and treatment.

Located on the existing Braid Valley Hospital site, the facility includes services such as; Rehabilitation and diagnostic services, such as (physiotherapy, podiatry and community dental), a Children’s Department, 6 General Practitioner Practices, GP Out of Hours Service, an Acute Outpatient Clinics, Mental Health Clinics and Boots pharmacy.

The 9,000m² separates the clinical departments across two floors which are organised around the main arrival space, an internal atrium, and an open courtyard that clearly orientates the building users to the different departments and allows natural daylight and ventilation to reach the large number of cellular spaces that make up each department.

Office accommodation is situated on the third floor of the building, located around the atrium below the undulating roof.

On the third floor staff office accommodation is located around the atrium below the undulating roof. The building has been designed to achieve a BREEAM excellent rating while its brick finish provides a public presence in the community.

  • From our first contact with OHMG we had nothing but positivity and good humour, the tour of the site was very informative and particularly helpful to less experienced members of our group who's site experience is still quite limited, It was immediately apparent that the site was well organised and the build quality of a very high standard. RIBA Director, BPN Architects, Richard Newman, on tour of Ballymena Health and Care Centre.
