Breda and Geraldine Show the Way In Northern Ireland Environmental Survey
Breda McAteer and Geraldine McParland, who head up O’Hare & McGovern’s quality and environmental strategies, have been lauded in Northern Ireland environmental benchmarking survey.
They achieved Platinum status – the highest scoring level – in the poll which recognises and rewards organisations that go beyond their legal requirements to manage resources which are aimed at minimising the impact on the environment when carrying out construction work.
Breda, the company’s Quality and Environmental manager, and Geraldine, the Quality and Environmental officer, are the driving force behind the effective management of environment issues on all OHMG sites.
Breda said: “I am delighted that OHMG’s have yet again achieved platinum status for the Environmental performance of the company. This award has been achieved as a result of Senior Management’s commitment to the Environment and the sustained efforts of all staff, in particular my colleague Geraldine McParland. I would like to thank Geraldine, OHMG’s staff and management for their continued support in striving for environmental improvement”.
The Northern Ireland Environmental Survey is run by Business in the Community, and backed by the NI Environment Agency as well as the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs.
Ninety organisations took part, including 18 for the first time. The average score was 77%.
David Small, chief executive of the NI Environment Agency said: “It is encouraging to see to many organisation demonstrating their commitment to improving environmental performance. The survey is a powerful driver of this.”
The bench marking enables organisation to compare performance levels and to learn from what others are doing. It is an important driver for corporate environmental management and improvement. The survey is recognised as well as being a positive influencer to help companies achieve more sustainable ways of doing business.
Geraldine added: “Myself and Breda are delighted that OHMG has been able to maintain our Platinum Status in this year’s Environmental Benchmarking Survey. Over the years, Environmental Impact within Construction has become increasingly important and we go to great lengths to ensure that any risks are minimised as much as possible. OHMG undertakes a Company-wide commitment to a strong environmental performance, and it is rewarding to see that our efforts have been recognised. A big thank you to all site teams who make the effort to maintain these standards on a daily basis.”
